Integrated Care Systems
The Ideal Partner for ICS Success
NHS SBS is uniquely positioned to support the organisational collaboration on which ICS success depends.
Recent ICS implementation guidance highlighted:
- The need for NHS providers to form 'provider collaboratives' to plan, deliver and transform services, working effectively at scale to tackle unwarranted variation
The opportunity for ICS members to join up corporate services and leverage joint purchasing power to achieve efficiencies and economies of scale
Established by DHSC to meet those very needs on a national scale, we have delivered shared services that touch every part of the healthcare system for over 15 years.
Our strategic collaboration with NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSEI), facilitating the CCG merger programme and the creation of Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), is already supporting DHSC in the successful delivery of ICSs
Aligned to National Policy
As an integral part of the NHS family,, we have worked with pathfinder ICSs to develop new system-wide corporate service solutions to:
Deliver unprecedented cost and efficiency savings
Supported by NHSEI, this work is designed to develop best-practice blueprints, scalable nationwide - levelling up individual organisations' performance to consistent, best practice standards across each system.
The Scale to Succeed
We provide finance, procurement and workforce services to more than half the NHS in England, and manage the national finance platform used by every NHS commissioning organisation.
We have migrated over 400 NHS organisations successfully, including large teaching hospitals, CCGs, community trusts and social enterprises. Our experience and expertise in implementing large scale change management programmes is unmatched.
9/10 - Overall client satisfaction score from transferring NHS organisations
In addition to delivering significant operational savings, we make ongoing capital investments at scale, at no additional cost or risk to an ICS or its individual member organisations. Our philosophy is to invest once on behalf of many, enabling ICSs to spend more on front-line care.
Recent areas of investment focus have included our award-winning automation programme, and our payroll app, MySBSPay
ICSs will benefit significantly from these, and other technologies and innovations, now and in the future.
Shared Service Resilience
The value of robust shared services across multiple organisations was underlined by the Covid-19 pandemic. During the emergency response our NHS partners relied on us to pay around 400,000 NHS employees, process billions of pounds of NHS spend, and manage hundreds of billions of pounds of NHS money.
In the same way, new ICSs can benefit from the peace of mind of having a dedicated corporate service provider with the resources needed to ensure high-quality uninterrupted services - even in times of national crisis - enabling ICSs to focus more of their resource on clinical services.
